Why use a Career Coach?
The value of using a Career Coach is that you now have an advocate, an individual that is working for you and on your behalf, listening with an open mind. Coaching helps clients to think outside the proverbial box about their lives and their careers. A professional Career Coach is someone who had the academic training and the experience in helping individuals to be their best, much the same as what an athletic coach does. An athletic coach empowers and encourages his or her athlete to achieve what they envision. What they do in an essence is to help you map out the right path for your personal job and life satisfaction. Often, the real value of coaching is in helping the client overcome their confusion, clarify the issues and to deal with the fear of change. Clients find themselves between conflicting thoughts, or have no idea what to do. Hiring a coach provides a way for clients to examine their options, weigh them and choose those that fit best. Many Career Coaches offer career interest and personality assessments. What an assessment of this type does is it helps the individual to focus on their interests and what occupations that would seem like a logical fit. Then, clients with the assistance of a coach develop action steps and a plan to move forward. Career Coaches often use a short term, results-oriented approach for finding meaning, purpose and direction. This approach is an integrated model which takes into account all aspects of each person and assists them in making the most satisfying career and life choices. This model can, and often time does, focus on your life purpose from the larger philosophical perspective of living as compared to your life work in a very tangible, specific way.
There are some people who do not fit the traditional job. Perhaps after spending time with a career professional an option might be to invest in a franchise, start your own business or to become a consultant. Others find themselves in a career that is somewhat satisfying, but some of the important elements are missing. They may need a new perspective or feel like they want to explore new possibilities. Some individuals just need help in transitioning to a new company, or feel as though they are stuck or lost. Some just may need help with interviewing techniques. Still others are facing impending job elimination, or a company closing due to downsizing or restructuring. A Career Coach can help each person to seek their career and life options. Why struggle alone? Why not solicit the help of someone who will listen objectively to your concerns and then advise you according to the job market and your individual skill set?
